Energy-efficient housing for Armenians

Published on

Armenia : Energy-Efficient Homes

In Armenia, living conditions are severely challenged by poorly insulated homes, harsh winters, and often insufficient purchasing power. To address this situation, the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Armenian National Mortgage Company (NMC) have joined forces to enhance the energy efficiency of housing across the country. By facilitating access to microcredit, low-income households can now consider renovating their homes.

Launched in 2013, this ambitious program quickly became a crucial support for residents, especially in the Syunik region, an area made vulnerable by its proximity to Nagorno-Karabakh. On the ground, we report on Jemma and Sevak, two beneficiaries of the program. Their testimonies reveal the tangible impact of these measures on their daily lives and the gradual transformation of living conditions for many Armenians.
