You are a researcher, policy-maker or development practitioner?

We are pleased to invite you to the 16th International Development Research Conference, organised by Agence Française de Développement (AFD), which will be held on 5 December 2024 from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm at AFD's headquarters in Paris (12th arrondissement) and online.

Under the theme ‘From research to action’, this conference has become a key event for discussing research findings and their application in public policy. Through this biennial gathering, AFD aims to encourage knowledge sharing and dialogue between researchers, policymakers and development practitioners in order to support low and middle income countries in their economic, ecological and social transition.

This year's conference will focus on putting research results into practice, so that they can be transformed into concrete public policies. You will have the opportunity to refine your understanding of the interactions between the major challenges of pro-nature transitions, the alignment of finance with a sustainable agenda, public action beyond the state and socio-demographic dynamics in transitions.

  • Demographic and social dynamics: How to integrate demographic and social dynamics in ecological transitions?
  • This panel provided an opportunity to discuss demographic and social dynamics in the context of ecological transition for low and middle income countries, and to look at how they can be analysed and integrated in a sustainable way into development trajectories.

This panel addressed the challenges and opportunities of aligning sustainable finance, looking at debates on regulatory frameworks and voluntary initiatives.

This panel discussed research on assessing the risks and opportunities of pro-nature transitions, in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
